The short version
- The calculators run in your browser. What you type into them is not stored or sent anywhere unless you submit a form.
- If you submit the broker connection form, your details and calculator answers go to one licensed Ontario brokerage (RIBO) so they can contact you with quotes. Nobody else. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- If you submit the contact form, we use your details only to reply.
- We display advertising and use analytics, both of which involve cookies (details below).
- After a valuation report you can optionally send us feedback, or email yourself a copy. Nothing is sent unless you press the button.
- Your in-progress entries are saved in your own browser so you don't lose work — that never reaches us.
Forms and your information
Form submissions are processed by our hosting provider (Netlify) and delivered to us. Broker-connection submissions include your name, contact details, postal code, and the answers you entered in the calculator, and are shared with one licensed Ontario insurance brokerage for the purpose of contacting you with quote comparisons, with your express consent (checked at submission). We do not sell or share your information with any other party. To withdraw consent or request deletion of anything you've submitted, use the contact form or reply to any message from the broker.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they use and which searches bring them here. It sets cookies and collects standard usage data; IP addresses are anonymized. It tells us that a page was used — not who used it. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on.
The feedback form on valuation reports
After you generate a valuation review, we invite you to tell us whether the numbers looked realistic. That form is entirely optional. If you submit it, we receive the figures already shown in your report — the vehicle description, your entered offer, the supported range, the number of comparables and the confidence rating — plus your answer, any notes, and your email if you choose to give one.
We do not receive VINs, listing links, names or contact details from the report itself, and nothing is sent unless you press the button. If you provide an email, we may contact you once to ask how your insurer responded; that follow-up is how we check our estimates against real outcomes. Ask us to delete it at any time and we will.
Emailing yourself a copy of your report
You can ask us to email you a copy of your valuation report. If you do, we receive the report text you generated and the email address you enter, and we use them to send you that copy. We may also contact you once, later, to ask how your insurer responded — that follow-up is how we check our estimates against real outcomes. Nothing else, and never to anyone outside FaultChecker.ca. Ask us to delete it and we will.
Draft saving in your browser
While you're filling in the valuation tool, your entries are saved in your own browser so a refresh or an accidentally closed tab doesn't lose your work. That data never leaves your device and we cannot see it. Clear it any time with the “Start fresh instead” link on the tool, or by clearing your browser data.
Insurance estimate feedback
On the insurance cost estimator you can optionally tell us how our estimate compared to a real quote you received. If you submit that form we receive the figures already on your screen — the vehicle, your area, our estimated range and your driver profile — plus your verdict and, if you choose to give them, the amount you were quoted and the insurer's name.
We do not ask for your name, email or licence number on that form, and nothing is sent unless you press the button. It is used solely to calibrate the estimates.
Advertising cookies
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's advertising cookies enable it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits here and elsewhere on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookie use at aboutads.info.
The VIN checker
VIN format validation happens entirely in your browser. If a VIN passes validation, it is sent to the U.S. NHTSA public vehicle database (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov) to decode the vehicle's specifications; we don't store it, and NHTSA's handling is governed by its own policies.
