Why the Rogue rates the way it does
The Rogue is one of the cheaper compact SUVs to insure in Ontario. Modest replacement cost, average repair bills and a theft record well below the RAV4 and CR-V.
Parts are inexpensive. CVT repairs can be costly out of warranty but that's a maintenance rather than insurance issue.
How fast it loses value
Depreciation is usually the largest cost of the first five years, and the one that never sends you a bill.
Projected resale value from new. After five years this model typically retains about 57% of its original price.

How model year changes the premium
Same driver, same city (Mississauga), different model years:
| Model year | Typical value | Estimated annual premium |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | $36,000 | $3,190 – $5,110 |
| 2023 | $23,000 | $2,890 – $4,620 |
| 2020 | $16,000 | $2,780 – $4,440 |
| 2016 | $9,500 | $2,420 – $3,870 |
| 2012 | $9,000 | $2,260 – $3,620 |
How your record changes it
Same vehicle, same city, different drivers — usually a bigger swing than the car itself:
| Driver | Estimated annual premium |
|---|---|
| Clean record, 10+ years licensed, full G | $2,890 – $4,620 |
| G2 licence, 1–2 years licensed | $4,780 – $7,650 |
| One at-fault claim in the last 6 years | $3,870 – $6,190 |
| Full G, 3–5 years licensed, clean | $3,470 – $5,550 |

How to pay less on this vehicle
- Shop it properly. The biggest lever — quotes for the same driver differ by 50% or more.
- Winter tires. Ontario insurers are required to offer a discount.
- Telematics. Usually the largest single discount available.
- Bundle home or tenant insurance.
- Raise the deductible — only if you could absorb it.
